I eat in restaurants a lot. Went there last night and it was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. After waiting for 90 min. for our apitizers, the waiter who paid no attention our table admitted that they he had not noticed that we did not have it. Then it came and it was so so. The mains, came 2 hours after we arrived. One dish, the lamb was cold and another the halibut was bland. All around us were tables with dirty dishes which nobody bothered to clean. People at the table next to us had been there for 2 hours and 30 min and were still waiting for their bill and shared that this is not unusual. We will never be back

Been there three times and always happy with both the food and service.

We live within walking distance of Chega. Ever since we started going there on the day after it opened it has been a family favourite. Tony, the owner, is a great host, the staff are all very professional and the atmosphere is modestly chic. The food is usually terrific value and quite inventive for a neighbourhood restaurant. The selection of wines is short but very good, and one of the best bargains in the city. In these straitened economic times, it is the kind of place you can plan to return to often.

I HAVE BEEN THERE MANY TIMES SINCE IT OPENED. GREAT FOOD

Chega is a moderately priced 'white table' cloth resturant in a part of Toronto where people take their food very seriously. For a resturant with entrees in the $18 - 30 price range, I feel Chega offers very good value. True, the service can be a little on the slow side. But I feel they are a victim of their own success - the place is usually busy esp on weekends. The owner, Tony, is always friendly and greets us as 'regulars', even though we're only semi-frequent diners. But Chega has quickly become one of our favourite local spots for nice dinner out that won't break the bank. Our parents like going there too - they're in their 80's and frequently find resturants given portions far too large for their appetites, or the higher end places are way too

We had a lovely evening there with another couple -- until the bill arrived. When our dinners were ordered, we were told that the vegetable of the day was beans -- one of the people in our party asked if he could change that and was advised that he could -- to asparagus. No member was made of an additional charge. When the bill arrived there was an additional charge of $3.00 for the change in the dinner. We questioned it, but were told that the waitress had checked with her boss and that the charge would stand. Although the restaurant is not pricy, we still spent a considerable amount and that it is jst plain

One of our favourites. A month does not go by without a stop at Chega. Excellent appetizers and risotto. I can't describe much else of the menu because I can't stop there a NOT order the risotto. My wife is into liver and she thinks that Chega's is the best she's had in a restaurant (though she'll always be partial to her home cooked recipe). She figures that if a restaurant cares that much about it's liver then it bodes very well for the more popular plates.

Good atmosphere but very poor quality food and terrible service. We would never go back

wonderful.

Have been back many times. Great salads, fish, and specials.

I agree with the first poster, the bocconcini cheese salad with grape tomatoes (I believe it's called the Caprese) is the best I've had. I would definitely recommend it!

Their aioli seafood pasta was delicious - simple, ingredients were fresh, good portions. We also had a pizza which was satisfying but not heavy.

For dessert we had the apple crumble... there's hints of raspberry in it and served warm topped with ice cream.

The place is warm and inviting, with a touch of class. The staff are very friendly. I would definitely go back.

A great New York style atmosphere, very open yet inviting. The service was a bit on the slow side, but the food was very good, with great value. I strongly recommend the boccacini cheese/tomato salad as an appetizer - the best of the kind I've ever had. A must go!

The atmosphere is nice and the price is very reasonable. However the service was very slow and poor and the food was unapetizing. I guess you really do get your moneys worth.

very nice place, good food and reasonable prices.

A simple dinner turned into a four hour affair. No service at all from the waitstaff unless prompted. Two meals out of eight returned to the kitchen as they were simply unedible. Terrible rude service. No explanations or apology. Possibly the worst dinner we all had ever had, and a ruined night out.
